    The Havre Northstars American Legion baseball team was anxious to get their 2024 season started. But, their home opener was going to be tough as the Northstars hosted the Great Falls AA Chargers last Sunday at Legion Field. And while it was tough sledding for the young Havre team, head coach Patch Wirtzberger’s squad battled the AA Chargers in each game.     With the Northeast A Divisional Tournament fast approaching, the Havre High tennis teams took full advantage of the Mayfair Invitational last weekend, hosted by Billings Central. The Blue Ponies played in a bracketed tournament against almost all of the Eastern A, including division rivals like Miles City and Glendive. On the boys side, the Ponies excelled in doubles, as Carter Spangler and Max Spangler teamed up to finish third in the No. 1 doubles bracket.   • Blue Ponies sweep on the diamond, win regular season title

    The Havre High softball team finished its home schedule with two wins at the Sixth Avenue Memorial Field. On Friday, the Ponies crushed Sidney 10-0 in five innings. Bree Hanson hit a homer for Havre. Havre was already up, 4-0 at that point. The Ponies also got four runs by RBI singles. Camille Keeley lead the team with three RBIs on three hits. Keeley now has 21 RBIs in 16 games played. Elle Verploegen dominated in the circle. She took a perfect game into the fifth inning, allowing only one hit and striking out eight Eagles.... Full story

  • Ponies sweep Havre Lions Invite

    Another home meet, another clean sweep for the Havre High track and field teams. On Saturday, the Blue Pony girls won the Havre Lions Invite at the Havre Middle School Track with 150 points, while the Havre boys scored 111 points to also win the final home meet of the 2024 season. In the boys meet, Brayden Kimblerling took second for the Ponies in the 100 meters, as well as second in the 200. Ciaran Courtnage also finished sixth in the 200.     The Havre High softball team splits a pair of recent games, as the Ponies fell to Lewistown but beat Glasgow. On Tuesday, the Ponies dropped a 5-4 decision to rival Lewistown at the Sixth Avenue Memorial Field. Camille Keeley got things started for the Ponies, doubling in center ersi Morse for the game’s first run in the bottom of the first.   • Pony thinclads do well at Glasgow Top 10

    The Havre High trend and field teams took part in the Glasgow Top 10 last Tuesday afternoon in Glasgow. And the Ponies who were qualified for the Top 10 did quite well. On the girls side, Havre’s Kaydence Reiter finished second in both the 100 meters and 200 meters, while Macy Brandon finished first in the 400 meters for the Ponies. Freshman Ashlyn Ford took second in the 1,600, while Kyanna Jarvis took first in the 100 hurdles.     The last time the Montana State University-Northern Lights won a Frontier Conference game, it was the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers who felt the brunt of that victory. The Lights are now hoping that history repeats itself.     The Montana State University-Northern men’s and women’s golf teams played their second tournament of the season last week as the Lights and Skylights competed at the Providence Open in Great Falls.
