I have been asked now by multiple people including current students of Havre High School whether the graduation requirements have been increased to 24 credits. The number of credits required to graduate from Havre High School has not changed. The credit requirements for gra...

And this past weekend, the Nationals offense had issues again, scoring once in two games, as Glacier lost twice to the Missoula Jr. Bruins. Missoula hosted Glacier both Friday and Saturday, and easily defeated the Nationals both nights by the scores of 8-0 and 7-1. The Nationals, who have twice been shut out by Missoula this season, are averaging just 1.2 goals per game and...

    Chris Peterson|Updated Jan 30, 2017

In its final regular season meet before the Eastern A Divisional, the Havre High wrestling team took part in the Malta Invitational and with a team that was less than full strength, the Blue Ponies took third. After a highly productive season, HHS head coach Scott Filius gave a few of his stalwarts the day off, including defending individual state champions Parker Filius and Jase Stokes, as well as fellow senior Dane Flammond. Yet even without three of its top individuals,...

In Friday's game, Billings' defense was outstanding, as the Bulls shut out the Ice Hawks 10-0. Havre managed just 15 shots on goal for the game, while on the other end, Havre goalie Kinzee Peterson saved 32-of-42 Billings shots. The Ice Hawks...

  • Lights dominate in Dickinson

    George Ferguson|Updated Jan 30, 2017

The Montana State University-Northern Lights have two big duals left in the 2016-17 wrestling season. But before the Lights get to those, they had one last tournament to take care of. On Saturday, the No. 3 Lights took part in the Tyler Plummer Classic at Dickinson State University, and while no team scores were kept, and the Lights rested some of their big guns, the day proved to be a successful one. The Lights had four individual champions, with Ben Stroh winning at 184...

  • Mustangs trample Ponies in the Corral

    Chris Peterson|Updated Jan 30, 2017

After beating Malta earlier in the season, the Havre High boys basketball team was out for the sweep. However, the short-handed Blue Ponies just didn’t have enough to hang with the Mustangs. Malta, which has lost just once since the two teams met in December, suffocated Havre defensively, allowing HHS to score just 11 first-half points in a 57-42 victory Saturday night inside the HHS gymnasium. With the loss, HHS is now 3-11 on the season. “I think when you only have thr...

  • Powerful Malta bests Havre High girls

    Chris Peterson|Updated Jan 30, 2017

When the Havre High girls basketball team and Malta get together, there is always plenty of hype, only Saturday inside the HHS gymnasium, it was the M-Ettes, not the Blue Ponies who lived up to it. Malta came into Saturday’s game with a six-game winning streak over Havre and after a 44-35 win over the Ponies, it's now extended to seven for the two-time defending Class B state champions. “I thought that defensively we had a pretty good game plan, especially in the first hal...

  • Saints run away from the Lights

    George Ferguson|Updated Jan 30, 2017

That pretty much sums up what happened to the Lights Friday night, in their final game of a six-game Frontier Conference home stand. The No. 13 Fighting Saints shot an incredible 69 percent from the field in a 64-48 win over the Lights in front of a big crowd at the Armory Gymnasium. The loss dropped the Lights to 5-5 in the Frontier, and ended their six-game run at 3-3. And...

  • Halting the March

    George Ferguson|Updated Jan 30, 2017

The Montana State University-Northern Skylights put a lot of effort and emotion into Thursday night’s gritty home win over the UGF Argos. The question then was, would the Skylights have enough left in the tank to beat Carroll College? The answer came with a resounding yes Friday night in the Armory as the No. 11 Skylights once again overcame a second-half deficit, beating the Saints 47-43. In a wild finish, Natalee Faupel hit a jumper with 1:09 to play, grabbed a rebound on t...
