Skylights take battle out of Bears

The Montana State University-Northern Skylights are back to looking like the Skylights of old with their second straight victory, defeating the Rocky Mountain College Lady Bears 74-50 on Saturday.

The Skylights (17-5, 4-3) took an early lead over the Battling Bears in the first half and never squandered it.

Northern was also back on track in every offensive category. The Skylights shot 52.7 percent from the field (60.9 percent in the second half), 46.7 percent from three-point range, including a perfect 3 for 3 in the second half, and also made 9 of 11 free throws for 81.8 percent.

Northern outrebounded Rocky 41-27. The Skylights had 31 defensive rebounds, taking away many second-chance baskets the Bears may have had.

With a 36-25 lead going into the half, the Skylights outscored Rocky 38-25 in the second half to come away with the huge win.

Four players scored in double figures for the Skylights, led by Paula Owens (17), Amanda Walter (14), Tamecia Watkins (12), and Angee Thomas (10).
