WILLIAM AZURE, Obituary

FORT BELKNAP William J. "Billy Rose" Azure, 77, a retired farm and ranch laborer, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at a Phillips County care center.

Wake and rosary will be 7 p.m. today at the Red Whip Recreation Center at Fort Belknap. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m.

Friday at the Red Whip Recrea-tion Center with burial in the Hi-Way Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his sons, Joe "Shorty" Azure and Jess "Buzz" Azure, both of Havre; sister, Kathleen Poncelet of Butte; brother,

Donald Clark of Denison, Iowa; numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Billy Rose was born May 12, 1924, at Fort Belknap, the son of Gabe and Mary Ann (Minugh) Azure. He was raised at Fort Belknap and attended school at Pierre, S.D. He was a good boxer and won many matches and trophies. He worked as a laborer for many framers and ranchers through out the Fort Belknap area as well as the state. He had lived in Butte where he worked in the copper mine for a while. He enjoyed reading, gardening, telling stories and he always had a joke to share with his friends.
