Plans set for intersection revamp

Part of the updates on Montana Department of Transportation projects in the area included work planned on a major highway intersection and a primary access road to Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation. Commissioner Mike Anderson said MDT officials talked about plans to improve lighting at the intersection of highways 2 and 87 just west of Havre, and improvements to Taylor Road during a meeting on local projects in Chinook Thursday. Anderson, who is running for reelection and faces fellow Democrats Jim Catt and Bert Corcoran in the June primary, said the work on Taylor Road will widen the road and make it safer. "There's some bad corners on it," he said. The road runs from the western edge of Beaver Creek Park to the edge of the reservation, where it meets Mission Road. That road already has been worked on, including being paved. Anderson said the Taylor Road Received enough federal funding to improve the road, but not enough to pave it at this time. That funding might become available later, he said. The project to work on the road is expected to be let out for bid this fall. The project on U.S. Highway 2 and U.S. Highway 87 is primar i ly a safety project , Anderson said. MDT wi l l replace the flashers and lighting at the intersection. That project is expected to be let out for bid Dec. 11. "That's still quite a ways out," Anderson said. Other points of the discussion included projects already under way near Harlem, both east and west of the town, Anderson said.
