Dr. Carl Leslie Johnson

Carl Leslie Johnson, 85, died Dec. 18, at Sweet Nursing Home in Chinook, following a long illness. Services will be Dec. 29, 2011, at Havre's Fifth Avenue Christian Church at 11 a. m.

Carl was born July 18, 1926, to Carl and Elvira (Kruse) Johnson in Eveleth, Minn. After high school, he enlisted in the Army and served as platoon leader, weapons, drill instructor and developed tactical field programs. He was discharged in late 1946, when he learned to fly and continued his education at the University of Minnesota and the Minnesota Veterinary School, graduating in 1954.

He met his wife-to-be, Joan Miller, while practicing in Duluth, Minn. They were married Mar 8, 1958. Shortly thereafter they moved to Montana where he practiced at Cut Bank and served later as the Western District State Veterinarian.

His lifelong passions were his vocation, his family, flying, music and the outdoors.

He was a member of the AVMA, MVMA, Society of Bovine Practitioners, Society for Theriogenology, Lions Club, Montana Pilots Association, North Country Water Associates Board, the Saddle Club and the Montana Air Search and Rescue.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Bea Marinaro; and grandson, Reed Simmons.

He is survived by

his wife, Joan; children, Robby (Mick) Washington of Fremont, Calif., Ann Simmons of Gooding, Idaho, Kurt (Candy) Johnson of Havre, Gregg (Michele) Johnson Riverside, Calif., and Kris (Kevin) Russell of Spokane, Wash.
