eams could take their customary break for Christmas, there was plenty of girls basketball to be played last week on the Hi-Line.

Last Monday saw the Chester/J-I Hawks continue their perfect season with a 42-29 thrashing of the Valier Panthers in Valier. The Panthers are thought to be a District 10C contender, but the Hawks 26-9 halftime lead to win going away.

Stina Haaland scored a game-high 11 points for the unbeaten Hawks, while Kate Graff chipped in with nine.

Monday wasn't as kind to the Rocky Boy Morning Stars, who lost to District 1B power Malta, 66-20 in Rocky Boy. Tennae Singer sco0red seven points for Rocky Boy, while Sabrina Laforge and Jaelynn Daychild each chipped in with four points.

Malta also took out another Hi-Line rival on Tuesday night, when the M-Ettes dismantled the Harlem Wildcats 61-13 in Malta. Malta led 41-4 at halftime as Harlem struggled to find any offense. Coco Moore scored five points in the loss for Harlem.

A big District 9C showdown took place Tuesday night in Chinook, where the host Sugarbeeters took care of Hays-Lodge Pole 70-41. The Beeters outscored the Thunderbirds 19-8 in the first quarter, then closed the half on a 19-4 run. HLP played better in the second half, but it was too little too late.

Taryn Norby poured in 22 points and three 3-pointers to lead the Beeters. Makhayla Farmer added 16 points and 15 rebounds. HLP got 15 points by Kristie Runs Above and 10 from Kallie Martin in the loss.

The Big Sandy Pioneers also found the win column on Tuesday night, beating Roy-Winifred 52-47 in Winifred. The Pioneers trailed 22-18 at the half, but battled back and took the game over in the fourth quarter. Molly Herron scored a game-high 19 points for Big Sandy while Mateila Cline added 15.

Thursday night was also busy around the area as teams closed out the 2011 portion of their schedule.

HLP bounced back from its loss to Chinook by taking out the North Star Knights 62-43 in a 9C game in Rudyard. North Star is playing without the injured Shelby Lipp, and HLP used a 22-10 first-quarter run to take a lead it would never relinquish.

Shakayla Whitecow scored 17 points to lead the T-Birds, while Kristie Runsabove had 14 and Chonelle Doney added 11. Lisa Carlon scored 12 points and Taylor Warren scored 10 for the Knights.

Box Elder was also victorious for the second time in a week. The Bears took out a tough Denton squad 57-42 on Thursday night in Box Elder. Brandi Buffalo led three Bears in double figures with 17 points. Aricka Wolf Chief added 15 on three trey's and Brianna Matt scored 11 as well for the unbeaten Bears.

It was a tough end to the week for Rocky Boy however. On Thursday night, the Morning Stars fell to the Shelby Coyotes 46-34 in Shelby. The Monring Stars trailed 28-20 in a fast-paced first half, and while they played well the final 16 minutes, they could never quite catch up.

The Morning Stars were paced in the loss by Sabrina Laforge with 12 points and Tracy Belcourt with six.
