Havre man arrested on warrant after chase

The Havre Police Department arrested a fugitive Thursday afternoon, following a call from the train station and a downtown manhunt.

Around 3 p.m. Thursday, BNSF Police Officer Tom Anderson called the Havre police to request assistance. Anderson reported a 21-year-old Havre man, Anthony Ekstrom, who was wanted on a felony warrant and misdemeanor theft warrant in Washington state, was trying to flee Havre on Amtrak.

Anderson tried to arrest Ekstrom but, after a fight that left Anderson with "numerous scrapes and bruises" according to a police department release, Ekstrom escaped on foot.

Havre police, Montana Highway Patrol and the Regional Task Force all helped search the downtown area for Ekstrom. They soon learned that Ekstrom was then trying to flee in a vehicle.

Havre police officers intercepted Ekstrom near the 1400 block of 5th Avenue and overpowered Ekstrom's persistent resistance.

He was arrested on charges of drug possession, assaulting a police officer, and resisting arrest, in addition to the Washington warrant.

Police are now investigating whether Ekstrom was involved in any other crimes in Havre.
