Laurel — New Montana State University-Northern Chancellor Jim Limbaugh has landed in Havre with both feet on the ground. He spent part of last week in Bozeman for meetings. We're sure he won't find this the most fun part of his job. Then he spent time meeting with people on campus. That part should be more interesting.

Laurel — Jim Kyle of Darby is in his 80s, but he continues to give blood, Over his lifetime, he has donated 23 gallons of blood, and plans to keep on going.

Laurel — The temperatures this week are between 80 and 100 degrees warmer than they often are this time of the year. We're sure that the weather will take a turn for the worse before too long, but it's great being able to go out without a heavy coat.

Laurel — Students attending Leadership High School, that great program sponsored by Havre High School and the Havre Area Chamber of Commerce, did community service projects recently, The high schoolers worked for the Christmas Angel Tree program, Havre Food Bank and other projects. The students learned the value of working for others in the community. Hopefully, adults learned from watching the students that we all have a responsibility to others in the community.

Dart — Some people took advantage of the large crowds that flock to taverns on New Year's Eve. They scammed bartenders into believing they had won $200 from casino machines. They traveled from bar to bar, raking in the cash. We hope police find out who was responsible.

Laurel — Sophia Tylana Speakthunder, daughter of Beth Snow and Ron Tyler Speakthunder of Fort Belknap, was born Monday, Jan. 2 — the first baby of the new year in Hill County. Congratulations to the youngster. May she grow up always being first.
