HMS student turns 12 on 12/12/12

It will be a day of the dozens for Havre Middle School student Holly Strobel.

She turns 12 today, on 12/12/12.

According to a CNN story, only 9,000 people in the world will have such an honor.

The next time there will be such an alteration, will be when someone turns 1 on 1/1/01, that is 3001.

Holly said she started her celebration over the weekend when she had 12 friends over for a sleepover.

Today will be made special when her mother takes her out to dinner and her father takes her out for more celebrations.

Holly is taking it all in stride, though she is excited about the event.

Her father, Scott Strobel, said he and Holly's mother, Julie, realized at birth that in 12 years, she would have a special day.

"I realized it about two years ago, " said Holly. "I plan ahead. "

Some conspiracy theories see 12/12/12 as the first sign of the end of the world, though such theories generally highlight 12/21/12, the last day of the Mayan calendar as the end of the Earth.

Either way, Holly is set.

"My due date was Dec. 21, " she said. "But my mother had me early. "

CNN reports this morning that lots of people are planning weddings today at Las Vegas, while other people are planning to launch new business ventures.

People are lined up to get married in Vegas.

"From a marketing perspective, it's a very big deal. Numbers are associated with Vegas," said Ann Parsons, marketing director for Vegas Weddings, which runs four chapels in town. "Unfortunately, it's the last date like that we'll have."

In the absence of any obvious symbolism — like 7-7-07, which gamblers will recognize as the numbers for a lucky slot machine winner— chapels are turning to Chinese numerology.

"One is considered a yang number, while two is considered a yin number. Combining the two can offer new couples balance," the marketing firm Back Bar USA said in a press release announcing its $1,212,120 wedding package that includes the use of a private jet, watches and earrings for the wedding party, and dinner at a Michelin-rated restaurant.
