Belcourt, others to listen about jobs

Democratic Rep. Tony Belcourt of Box Elder and other state lawmakers are set to make a stop in Havre tonight in a statewide tour to listen to what local residents have to say about job creation and retention.

House Minority Leader Jon Sesso, D-Butte, and Rep. Chuck Hunter, D-Helena, are expected to join Belcourt at the session, set to start at 6 p. m. at the Hill County Electric Hospitality Room at 2121 U. S. Highway 2 just west of Havre.

Depending on the weather, other state lawmakers had hoped to join the listening session as well.

Democrats have said they organized the tour because they believe the last session of the state Legislature was spent telling Montanans how job creation would be done, rather than listening to what people in the state said or believed should be done.

While the legislators will take part in the discussion, the intent is more for them to listen to what people have to say about job creation and retention, organizers said.

Democratic lawmakers, including Belcourt, have held three sessions so far in the eastern part of the state, with stops in Billings, Miles City and Sidney.

The tour continues with a stop in Great Falls Wednesday, swinging to the central and southern region next week and into western Montana in February.
