Blue Pony grapplers host top-ranked GFH

After a solid second-place finish at the Class A duals in Lewistown over the weekend, the Havre High wrestling team is wasting no time getting back on the mats.

It is a very short turnaround, considering the Central A Blue Ponies wrestled seven duals in two days. But despite just two days rest, the Ponies host yet another tough opponent tonight. At 6 p.m. at the Havre High gymnasium in Havre, the Ponies will face the Class AA Great Falls High Bison in a non conference dual.

"I am sure they (Bison) are in the same boat we are," Havre High head coach Scott Filius said. "I am sure they are dinged up and soar, and probably the last thing they want to do is drive to another dual (today). They just got done with the AA duals in Bozeman, but the nice thing is that they are good, competitive kids, and the matches will be beneficial to everybody. We are looking forward to it."

The Bison house a very talented squad this season.

Grapplers like Cole Mendanhall (140) headline the Bison as one of the top wrestlers in the state. Josh Morin (135) is also a multiple time state finalist, while Josh Smart (112) is also a returning state finalist. Other Bison who could give the Ponies a run for their money will be Jarren Komac (98), Casey Sobson (105), Kessler Leonard (119), Kenton Evans (125), Gage Bentley (145), Jacob Oberholtzer (152), Aaron Carpenter (160), Tyler Weaver (171), Mateo Amato Cataneo (189), Andreas Geranios (215) and Bridger Wren (285).

"They have a lot of kids that are just flat-out tough," Filius said. "We have worked with Great Falls a lot over the years and we really enjoy facing them."

The Ponies' roster isn't set in stone just yet, and a lot of that will depend on how healthy they are before tonight's action.

Kolton Lodge (285), Dillon Seely (140) and Nate Kennelly (112) are all questionable for tonight's action. But hopefully making up the rest of the roster will be Grayson Brenna (98), Dylan Stewart (105), Dustin Seely (119), Thomas Gruber (130), Riley Labuda (135), Jordan Schroeder (145), Eli Hinebauch (152), Kameron Pribyl (160), Grant Pattison (171), Casey Schaub (189) and Tyler Adams (215).

"Hopefully we will be ready to go on all cylinders," FIlius said. "But we will see."
