Our View: Hi-Line darts and laurels

DART - The Montana Public Service Commission has voted 4-1 to abolish a rule that requires the state's largest utilities to disclose the salaries of their chief executive officers. While the utilities are not government operated, they are a monopoly. and they depend entirely on money that comes from the public. Some utilities have threatened to sue. We're sorry the PSC caved so easily. We think the commission was right in 2010 when it passed the disclosure act.

LAUREL - The small city of Harlem is putting on a big bash this weekend. The Montana Seed show offers old-fashioned hometown friendliness with good natured competition in a variety of crafts and baking along with games, displays, good times, meetings with old friends and Hi-Line friendliness at its best. Stop in at Harlem High today and Saturday.

LAUREL - United Way of Hill County will have its annual meeting and awards luncheon on Wednesday. The United Way has gotten a much higher profile in the area as of late. The Norm Gorder Community Service Award, which will be handed out Wednesday, has become one of the major awards in our community. Wednesday's meeting should be a celebration of what United Way has accomplished and a challenge to continue to moving forward.

LAUREL — On March 22, the Havre High School Key Club will sponsor its annual fund drive for the March of Dimes. People can donate spare change, and the members will lay the coins end to end around the high school track. It is one of many projects the Key Club does. Their activities encourage oldsters that young people are interested in public service. The March of Dimes was the organization that successfully eradicated polio. Now it is striving to do away with birth defects. There is a long way to go, but great strides have been made because of efforts like the one the Key Club members will conduct.
