Chinook grapplers compete in Choteau

Area wrestling teams had a strong showing at the Choteau Classic this past weekend, but one Hi-Line power was absent.

The third-ranked Harlem Wildcats opted not to make the trip to Choteau for one of Class B-C's biggest tournaments, due to the hazardous winter storm which swept through the area last weekend.

Meanwhile, Chinook finished in 10th place with 72 points, while Big Sandy scored 35 points and Chester/J-I scored 28. Choteau racked up 294.5 points to easily win its own tournament. Cut Bank was a distant second and Columbus-Absarokee was third.

Chinook got a solid second-place finish from Donovan Moon at 98 pounds, while C/J-I heavyweight Shalon Norick captured the heavyweight championship Saturday in Choteau. Chinook's Jake Norby finished third at 112 pounds, while Big Sandy's Lane Martin paced third at 171. The Beeters also got sixth-place finishes from Wyatt Brandell at 130 pounds and Kevin Young at 189.
