Box Elder explodes; Chinook bounces back

With prep football now at full swing, the Hi-Line saw plenty of gridiron action Friday and Saturday.

In Class B action, the Harlem Wildcats started their season 0-1, as visiting Big Timber earned the 21-6 win.

Seth Adams did score the only touchdown of the day for the Wildcats, but outside of the one end zone visit, Harlem had a tough day offensively. Adams’ score came on a 41-yard rush in the first quarter, as the Wildcats saw a 7-6 first quarter deficit turn into a 15-point season opening loss.

Harlem will remain on the road this weekend, traveling to Shelby to face the Coyotes Friday at 7 p.m.

North Star 53, Fromberg/Roberts 13

The North Star Knights got their Six-Man season off to a rousing start. The Knights clobbered Fromberg/Roberts 53-13 in Fromberg.

No stats were available. The Knights will return home to face Augusta Saturday in Rudyard.

Box Elder 62, West Yellowstone 0

It was an impressive debut for the Box Elder Bears, who smashed the West Yellowstone Wolves Saturday in West Yellowstone.

The Bears, led by sophomore quarterback Brandon The Boy, scored early and often to start the Six-Man season 1-0.

Box Elder will make its home debut with a Northern Division rivalry game Saturday against Big Sandy.

Chinook 56, GFC 38

Also Saturday, the Northern C Eight-Man Chinook Sugarbeeters bounced back from a loss a week ago. Now sitting at 1-1, the Beeters defeated Great Falls Central 56-38 on the road.

At the half, the Beeters led 36-30 after an early shootout. Outscoring Central 20-8 in the final two frames, the Beeters were able to run away with the game with huge production from Zach Molyneaux. The Beeters rushed for 356 total yards, with Molyneaux racking up 302 of those yards and accounting for five rushing scores, one kick return for a score and one passing touchdown. Molyneaux rushed for scores from 49, 60, 64, 59, and 20-yards out. He also returned a kick for a 79-yard TD, as well as connected with Lane Seymour on a 10-yard pass.

Jake Demert also recovered a fumble in the end zone for the Beeters.

Chinook will return home on Friday, where the Beeters will host Sunburst at 7:30 p.m.

Clark Fork 30, Big Sandy 19

Big Sandy wasn’t able to get a win in their first time out this season, falling to 0-1 at home. Clark Fork defeated the Pioneers 30-19 in nonconference Six-Man action in Big Sandy.

Clark Fork jumped out to an 18-6 first quarter lead, but the Pioneers could never recover, even with Jerry Hanson having a huge day for Big Sandy. Hanson had all three touchdowns for the Pioneers, scoring on a seven-yard rush, a 34-yard catch from Kyle Strutz, and a five-yard rush.

The Pioneers will be back on the field to face Box Elder on Saturday in Box Elder at 1 p.m.

Wrapping up local football action, the Hays-Lodge Pole Thunderbirds also started a new season with a loss. In Six-Man action, the Thunderbirds took on Wibaux on the road, but fell 73-0.

The Thunderbirds took a devastating blow in the opening quarter, allowing 53 points.

Hays-Lodge Pole will host Culbertson/Bainville Saturday at 1 p.m.

Havre JV 71, Rocky Boy 0

Monday night at Blue Pony Stadium, many of the young Pony stars shined as the Havre High junior varsity team thumped Rocky Boy 71-0.

The Ponies opened the scoring with a 31-yard touchdown run by Gunnar Aageson in the first quarter. Parker Filius added TD runs of 18 and 6 yards to give HHS a 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Ponies quickly added a 6-yard scoring run from Jase Stoke to start the second quarter, then Nate Korb return an interception 47 yards for a touchdown with 6:54 left in the first half. Jase Kato capped off the first-half scoring with a 13-yard quarterback keeper as the Ponies led 42-0 at the break.

Havre’s lone score in the third period came on a 35-yard fumble recovery by Filius, one of seven Rocky Boy turnovers on the night. Filius also scored on a 63-yard run in the fourth, while Dylan Carpenter scored on a 53-yard run, and Stokes added a 47-yard fumble recovery for a TD.

Rocky Boy struggled to move the ball, but quarterback Isiah Murie did have some nice runs. He, along with Shadow Laforge and Gage Standing Rock led the Stars’ rushing attack.
