Hi-Line Athletes of the Week

Thomas Gruber, Havre Track

Havre High senior Thomas Gruber has been a model of consistency for the Blue Pony track and field team so far this spring. Gruber, who is a returning All-Conference pole vaulter, has placed in the Top Five at every meet he’s entered so far. At last Saturday’s Gallatin Valley Invitational in Belgrade, Gruber vaulted 12-6 to finish second. Gruber, who is also an All-State wrestler and football player for the Blue Ponies, also finished second to teammate Gunnar Aageson at the Havre Lions Invite earlier this month at the Havre Middle School Track.

Bettie Carlon, North Star Track

North Star senior Bettie Carlon has been good on the track for a long time. But in her final year of high school track and field, Carlon isn’t resting on past success. At the Havre Lions Invitational on April 15, Carlon won long jump (15-9), triple jump (34-9) and high jump (5-0) events to help push the Knights to a strong finish. And in last weekend’s D-G-S Invitational in Lewistown, she was equally as good, placing in five different events. Carlon has also been an All-State volleyball player and basketball player for the Knights during her tremendous athletic career.
