Council gets reports from fire, parks and rec

Havre City Council convened Monday to listen to reports from the Havre Fire Department and Parks and Recreation.

Chris Inman, director of Parks and Recreation, spoke to the council about the various summer projects the department is putting on.

Inman said the public swimming pool will begin offering two-week session swimming lessons and that there are enough lifeguards at the pool to get by, but they could always use more.

The “playmobile” will come back to Pepin Park, but this year it will only come in the afternoons.

Other items in her report included: Wednesday’s track meet will be the last sponsored by Hershey’s, and a plan to update the horseshoe pits at Pepin Park, replace the old playground equipment and sod the infields of the baseball diamonds at Optimist Park.

Dave Shephard, the Havre Fire Department chief, gave a report on what the fire department has done in the past year.

The fire department has responded to 159 fire calls and 1,119 emergency medical calls, has done 233 fire safety inspections at businesses and tested 232 fire hydrants.

Firefighters also reported their annual airport response training and an Amtrak emergency response training

Additionally, all emergency medical technicians are now advanced EMTs, the chief reported.
