Blue Pony golf teams return to East Glacier

It's back to work for the Havre High boys and girls golf teams. And improvement should be the order of the day as the Blue Ponies take to the East Glacier Lodge Golf Course for the second time in seven days.

Friday, HHS will take part in the Browning Invitational at East Glacier. The 18-hole tournament comes just one week after HHS competed at East Glacier in the Browning Golf Tournament.

In Browning last week, the Havre boys finished second to arch rival Lewistown, while the Pony girls finished third. Friday, HHS will face the Eagles again as well as Browning, and possibly Whitefish and Libby.

The Havre High boys varsity lineup features juniors Jerod Boles and Jeff Miller, as well as senior Wyatt Lindbloom. But so far this season, sophomore Dustin Haas has been the Ponies' top scorer. Haas has played outstanding golf thus far, and he returns to East Glacier after both he and Miller finished fifth there last week. Sophomore Kane Gabrielsen rounds out HHS's varsity lineup for head coach Brett Gilman.

The Havre girls are led by junior Randi Gabrielsen, who will be looking for redemption Friday. She is Havre's top player, but at windy East Glacier last week, she posted a difficult 122. Still, Gabrielsen is capable of finishing high in every tournament she enters. First-year varsity players Jordan Keith, MacKenzie Tilleman and Regan Lammers round out the HHS girls lineup.

Havre will also be sending a junior varsity team to East Glacier, while Friday marks the start of the stretch run of the season for the Ponies. The next two weeks are busy for the Ponies, as they play at Lewistown Sept. 12 and at Beaver Creek Golf Course Sept. 13. Havre then heads south for the Billings Central Invitational Sept. 18 and the Laurel Invite Sept. 19.

Friday's Browning Invitational starts at 9:30 a.m. at the East Glacier Lodge Golf Course.
