Local Bowling Report: Leagues rolling along

Ten Pin Chatter...

After 40 years of being in existance as the International Family Tournament it is being replaced by the All American Family Tournament. There are many changes being made but the basic concept is still the same — a handicap doubles tournament involving family memebers.

There is four age divisions available, U8, U12, U15 and U17 with the youth’s age as of July 31, 2014. Finals will be held in Chicago in July of 2015. Qualifying may be a league or tournament. Scholarships will be awarded at the national level. For more information contact Hi-Line Lanes.

Ever wonder what all that writing on the box on a bowling ball means and the specifications of a ball has to be after it is drilled? They will always say the static weight (which is the gross weight.) Next will be the top weight, which when weighted out on a DODO scale will give you that. Next is in the pin anywhere from 0-5 inches meaning the distance from the center of the ball. The further the distance the more skid and flip. Next is the kind of coverstock, weight block, and then the ball finish. After a ball is drilled it can’t be more than 16 pounds in total weight. There is no minimum weight. Balance weight taken from center grip A. No more than three ounces of top/bottomweight; B. No more than 1.02 Side weight Left/Right; C. No more that 1.02 finger/thumb weight. ll weights according to U. S. B. C. rules.
