Red Cross sets blood drive for Chinook on Tuesday, Jan. 6

The American Red Cross is holding a blood drive in Chinook from 1 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Wallner Hall.

Anyone age 16 or older is encouraged to donate blood,

People 16 or 17 must have a signed parental consent and a valid ID.

Anyone 18 years of age and older should bring a donor card or a valid ID.

Appointments are highly encouraged by the Red Cross, and people who have not made an appointment but would like to do so, can go online at redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-733-2767 or 1-800-REDCROSS.

Before donating it is recommended that people get a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast or lunch, and drink extra water and fluids to replace the volume they will donate.

People also should avoid beverages with caffeine before donating blood, and should eat iron-rich foods and avoid fatty foods.
