Ice Hawks split with Ice Dogs in Bozeman

fter taking two weeks off for the holidays, the Havre Ice Hawks were back in action for the first time in 2015 this past weekend for back-to-back games against Bozeman.

The Ice Hawks, Havre’s high school hockey team, who came into the weekend sporting a 1-3 record, had to be satisfied after splitting the two games against Bozeman, winning 4-2 Saturday before falling 7-5 Sunday.

After a scoreless first period between Bozeman and Havre Saturday, the Ice Hawks got goals by Kade Friede and Kyle Konesky to take a 2-0 lead into the third period. Then, Havre added to its lead getting goals from Caleb McLain and Alex Hanson before the Ice Dogs added two goals late to make the final score 4-2.

Konesky, Gavin Gunderson and Clifford Lehnardt all contributed with assists in the win. Goaltender Josh Emge earned the win in net for Havre after coming up with a total of 25 saves.

Sunday, the Ice Hawks finished up their two-game set in Bozeman when they faced the Ice Dogs for the second straight day. This time however, Bozeman made sure the outcome was different and up-ended Havre by the score of 7-5.

Alex Hanson had another solid effort for Havre in the loss and led the way for the Ice Hawks with two goals, one in the first period and another in the second. Blake Hanson also had a productive day for the Ice Hawks with a goal and two assists. Konesky scored his second goal of the weekend, while Lehnardt also contributed with a goal. Gunderson pitched in with an assist for the second consecutive game. Jeffrey Ralph also had an assist in the loss.

In the net for the Ice Hawks, Emge was hit with the loss even though he finished the game with a total of 43 saves. With the win Saturday and the loss Sunday, the Ice Hawks are now 2-4 on the season.

The Ice Hawks will hit the road again this weekend for a pair of games against Miles City.
