Happy New Year!.The winter weather is finally here, and what better weather is there for curling up with a great book? To celebrate the New Year here are some of our new books you can check out today:

“Hush,” by Karen Robards. This romantic thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat. The novel begins when Riley Cowen finds her estranged husband, Jeff, dead in his home. The police say it’s a suicide, but Riley thinks it could be someone Jeff’s father ripped off in one of the biggest financial fraud cases of all time. Enter Finn Bradley, an FBI agent with a dangerous secret. He’s after the money too, and Riley quickly becomes his chief suspect. But when someone tries to kill her, he has no choice but to protect her until he can uncover the truth.

“Let Me Be Frank With You,” by Richard Ford, is a collection of four novellas starring Frank Bascombe. Living in New Jersey, Bascombe navigates the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy while also confronting his aging self. Bascombe is a funny, witty protagonist, but also sometimes profound.

“The Magician’s Land,” by Lev Grossman, is the magnificent conclusion to Grossman’s Magicians Trilogy. Reviewers have compared this series to the “Harry Potter” series, “The Chronicles of Narnia,” and “The Lord of the Rings.”

Quentin Coldwater has been exiled from the magical land of Fillory. With nothing left to lose, he returns to where his story began, the Brakebills Preparatory College of Magic. Quentin, along with undergraduate Plum, finds himself navigating a crooked path. Along the way he encounters old friends and buried secrets. He uncovers the secret to creating a magical utopia, a new Fillory — but casting it will set in motion a chain of events that will bring Earth and Fillory crashing together. To save them he will have to risk sacrificing everything. “The Magician’s Land” and its sequels are available at the Havre-Hill County Library.

“Undeniable: Evolution and the Science of Creation,” by Bill Nye. If you watched Bill Nye videos in school, you’ll be able to hear his voice clearly in this book. Nye details the history of evolution, strolling through 4.5 billion years. He also talks about how new species come about, discusses genetically modified food, and explores the search for alien life. This book is entertaining and quite accessible, do not let the headiness of the subject matter deter you from picking it up.
