Substance abuse course set at Stone Child

From Stone Child College

Stone Child College will hold  a multi-cultural health initiative course for 18- to 24 -year-olds Mondays and Wednesdays, 2:30 to 4 p.m.

Friday is the last day to enroll.

Enrollees will be invited to participate in the Partnership for Healthy and Safe Choices.  Participation is voluntary, but there are incentives for taking part:

Gift cards and gas cards will be given to people who participate.

At the end of the project, people will be given tickets for chances to win a prize.

The project is in partnership with the Rural Health Initiative and White Sky Hope Center. It will implement evidence-based, culturally appropriate substance abuse and HIV/AIDS prevention and early intervention strategies.

People will be asked to fill out a questionnaire, complete a pre-test before instruction begins and two post-tests.

One of the post-tests will be at the end of the instruction and the other survey will be 60 days after instruction. All information will be kept confidential.

Participants will have a unique identification number.

This unique identification number will be used to track responses to measure progress. The results of the surveys will not be distributed with individual identification numbers, but the results will be compiled and analyzed as a group to measure progress.

The collection of data will help organizers have a better understanding of effective prevention strategies for young adults.

People with questions or who are interested in enrolling, can contact Ann Johnstone, SCC instructor, or Natalie Flores, prevention specialist, at 395-4818, or Elinor Nault Wright, PHSC program coordinator, at 395-4875 ext. 221 or [email protected]
