9C Update: Box Elder and Fort Benton-Geraldine to play for 9C title

Updated at 10:32 p.m.: It started with the Box Elder Bears upsetting the Chinook Sugarbeeters in the first 9C girls semifinal Thursday night in Havre. But the surprises kept coming as the Fort-Benton-Geraldine Longhorns knocked off the Chester/J-I Hawks in the nightcap.

The Bears, who beat two-time defending champion Chinook 48-45, will face the Longhorns, who beat the Hawks 35-32 in the late semifinal. The championship game is set for 8:30 p.m. Friday night.

Updated at 6:50 p.m.: The first round of the District 9C boys tournament was completed Thursday afternoon at the Havre High gymnasium. Hays-Lodge Pole defeated North Star 69-41 in one affair and Chinook topped Big Sandy 61-36 in the final game of the first round. HLP and Chinook will meet Friday at 5:30 p.m. in the semifinals.

The opening afternoon of the 9C boys tournament in Havre saw the Box Elder Bears defeat the Turner Tornadoes 97-37, while the Chester/J-I Hawks defeated the Fort Benton-Geraldine Longhorns 54-39. The Bears and Hawks will meet in the first semifinal Friday at 4 p.m.
