Food training set for Tuesday in Great Falls

Bear Paw Development Corp., along with the Montana Food and Agriculture Development Center Network and United States Department of Agriculture Specialty Crop Program, will be sponsoring “Food Safety Management System Toolkit Training in North-Central Montana.”

This will take place Tuesday, March 10, at Great Falls College Montana State University from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A press release announcing the session said the training is geared toward established food businesses, but Tiffany Melby, Bear Paw’s Food and Agriculture Development coordinator, said everyone is welcome, no matter how big their business is, or where they are located.

“(For example,) maybe their business isn’t fully established yet and this is something they're going to need — they’re more than welcome to do that,” she said.

All participants will receive the workbook and electronic templates of the Food Safety Management System Toolkit. The training will cover the “what and whys” of providing a safe food product, step-by-step directions for performing food safety related tasks, and documentation procedures to prove that a product is produced in a safe manner, the release said.

The cost of this training is free for specialty crop processors/producers and $75 for nonspecialty crop processors/producers.

To register for this training, call Melby at 265-9226 or email [email protected]
