Scale association holds annual meeting

Hill County Scale Association met at noon at Wolfer’s Diner Feb. 18 for the organization’s annual winter meeting with the biggest news being that the scale has no big news.

2014 went smoothly for the association was the report from the secretary and the scale manager.

Finances for the scale remain steady, said Monica Goldhahn, secretary for the association. The group also gained three new members in 2014. Memberships are all lifetime memberships that can be transferred to direct heirs.

One of the new members has been using the scale regularly as a non-member, who pay higher fees per head of cattle, but he is increasing his herd and decided to join.

Scale manager Lavonne Herman said that all of the repairs made to the corrals during the June 2014 work day held up, and the truck drivers using the facility appreciated the modifications to access gates.

Herman also reported that brand inspections are increasing by 25 cents per head of cattle for the second year in a row, and for 2015 the basic cost will be $1.

Dennis Kleinjan of Chinook, who will be continuing as president, set June 11 as the next workday at the scale, located on U.S. Highway 2 east of Havre.

Anyone interested in using the Hill County Scale Association facility, or becoming a member, can call Herman at 265-8182 or 399-0395.
