Elks Lodge shrimp peel set for Saturday

The Havre Elks Lodge Annual Shrimp Peel Scholarship Fundraiser is set for Saturday at the Elks Lodge, 321 2nd St.

Brandy Kurtz, lodge secretary-treasurer, said proceeds from this event will go into a scholarship fund that benefits high school students across the Hi-Line.

“From Harlem to Chester, down to Big Sandy is our demographic area — and everywhere in between that has a high school,” she said.

High school seniors qualify for the scholarships and students can talk to their school counselors for more information on the application process.

Kurtz said the scholarships have already gone out this year and that in April, the group will hold a scholarship dinner to honor the recipients of those scholarships.

“If we have more than what is needed for this year we have a scholarship fund already set up,” she said. “It just automatically rolls over every year, so then maybe next year, if we’ve got more money in that scholarship fund, we can provide a higher scholarship amount.”

Kurtz said shrimp, baron of beef, rice pilaf, salad and dessert will be served at the event, which will include raffles and 50/50 drawings.

Tickets are $25 per plate and can be reserved with Kurtz, bought at the Elks Club or purchased at the door. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the event.

“There is a couple raffles going on down at the bar if people want to get involved but not attend the dinner this weekend,” Kurtz said. “There’s many different things if they can’t make the dinner this weekend or the raffle there — there’s other raffles going on.”

Cocktail hour will begin at 6 p.m. and dinner will begin at 7 p.m.
