Harada benefit set for May 2

A chili dinner and silent auction benefit event for local woman, Janine Harada, 59, who is battling two stage four cancers, is set for Saturday, May 2.

Nichole Artis, Harada's daughter, said her mother has stage 4 metastatic cholangiocarcinoma and stage four mantle cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

"She got diagnosed with two really rare, stage four terminal cancers on the same day," she said. "She just found out in December."

Artis said she admires her mother's strength and selflessness.

The proceeds from this event will be used toward medical and travel expenses that have added up.

"When she first found out she had (the cancers), she spent 29 days in the hospital. ... She's had more and more complications since then," Artis said. "She's been in the hospital a lot, so it's accumulated a lot of medical bills."

So far, a variety of items have been donated for the silent auction, including a fire pit from Havre Hardware.

The fundraiser will take place at the District 4 Human Resources Development Council's dining hall, 2229 5th Ave. from 3 to 7 p.m.

Chili, buns and desserts will be served. The cost for the dinner is a free-will donation.

Donations can also be made through Bear Paw Credit Union into the account, "Janine Harada Medical Account."
