United U14 squad plays two

Spring is in the air and when the weather gets nice that means it’s soccer season in Havre and this past weekend the Hi-line United soccer club continued its 2015 campaign as the U-14 team traveled to Butte for a pair of games last Saturday.

The United U-14 team opened its season back on April 11 in Havre. The team lost its first two games and, unfortunately, things did not go any better for the United in Butte as they dropped back-to-back games to Red Lodge and Polson, by the scores of 5-3 and 9-0, respectively to drop to 0-4 on the season.

Yet, the team is having to play some difficult competition and the fact that they hung with Red Lodge and managed to score three goals in the two-goal defeat is a promising sign. Rowland Snyder was one of just two players to find the net and actually did so twice in the loss. The other goal came from Cole Hanson. The United did not score in the second game against Polson, which ended up with a final score of 9-0.

“It was a tough weekend,” United U-14 head coach Jayson Burrington said. “We played better as a team during both matches. This is the first year our team has played together and at this level. We are improving each (game) and there is a lot of competition in this league. I’m proud of the kids for playing so hard.”

The U-14 team will be back in action this Saturday at home, where it will play Laurel at 11 a.m., and Sidney at 4:30 p.m. The U-19 team, which was off last weekend will head to Miles City, where it will face Big Timber and Miles City. The first game will be at 1 p.m. The second game will be at 4:30 p.m.
