Local Golf Report: Beeters head to Class C state meet

From Tee to Green...

The start of men’s league play at Prairie Farms Golf Course wasn’t the only big local golf news to come out of last week.

No, there was also local golf being played in Chinook and in Arizona of all places.

Last Saturday, the Chinook High School golf teams played host to the Chinook Invitational at the Chinook Golf Club, and as expected, it was a great day for the Chinook boys. The Sugarbeeters captured first-place honors over Sunburst, Fort Benton Centerville, Saco and Highwood. The Beeters scored a 250 in the meet, and got a first-place finish from senior Lane Seymour, who fired a round of 80. Derek Bell was second with an 82, while Kade Friede was fourth with an 88 and Ian McIntosh was fifth with a 90. The Chinook girls had just two players compete Saturday, with Jordan Surber shooting a 126 to finish ninth and Katelyn Neibauer shooting a 151 to place 15th overall.

Last week also saw golfers from Montana State University-Northern compete in the season-ending Frontier Conference championships in Arizona. The MSU-N men finished sixth in the 54-hole tourney with a 940. Tanner Shanks was the top golfer for the Lights, as he shot 276 to finish 27th. Quinn Bune was 28th overall and Mikal Mavencamp was 32nd. The Lewis-Clark State men won the team title, while Jordy Donoven, who golfs for Rocky Mountain College, was seventh overall with a 225.

On the women’s side, the Skylights were last with a 1248 team total. Ashley Hooper was Northern’s top finisher with a 291 for 23rd place. Carrigan Jones came in 26th, Kirsten Bense was 27th and Molly Kreycik was 29th overall. The LC State women also captured the Frontier title.

The first week of men’s league golf is also in the books as teams began the quest for the playoffs last Tuesday and Wednesday at Prairie Farms.

Tuesday night saw Bing-N-Bob’s start off the season with high-team honors with 24.5 points. Jeremy Jensen, Buzz Pizzini, Lunar Evans and Bill Evans made up the team. Jensen also shared low gross with Shane Kemmer as each shot 38. Low net went to Darin Ross with a 25.

Last Wednesday night saw Valley Furniture take high-team honors with 22 points. The team was composed of Cal Wirtzberger, Mike Evans, Billy Evans and Dave Peterson. Kevin Harada was low gross with an even-par 36, while Jim Kato was low net with a 31.
