Local Golf Report: Beeters finish third at state tourney

From Tee to Green...

The 2015 golf season came to a close for the Chinook High School golf teams last week in Shelby. The Sugarbeeters played in the Class C state tournament at Marias Valley Golf Club last Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Chinook boys finished third with a team score 510, five strokes behind second-place Lone Peak. Seeley-Swan captured the C state boys title. Individually, Chinook’s Lane Seymour placed second overall after he shot 77-76. Seymour earned Class C All-State honors for the second straight season. Chinook’s Derek Bell also posted a Top-15 finish, as he ended up in 11th place overall. Ian McIntosh and Kade Friede rounded out the scoring for the Beeters. Jordan Surber and Allison Skoyen competed for the Beeters in the girls meet. Congrats to all the Beeters on a fine season.

Meanwhile, back at Prairie Farms Golf Course, the men’s league season is just starting to heat up. Last Tuesday night saw Wagner Plumbing score a blistering 26 points to earn high team. The team is made up of Dan Wagner, Dan Kiederowski, Greg Baltrusch and Russ Earl. Buzz Pizzini was low gross with a 1-over par 37, while Paul Dees was low net with a 29.

Last Wednesday night saw Aaron’s score an amazing 29 points to win high team. The squad was composed of Brandon Moomey, Bob Moomey, Scott (Stocker) Stockdill and Dax Nebel. Jeremy Jensen, Jordy Donovan and Matt Hedstrom all tied for low gross with 37s, while Dave Herman was low net with a 28.5.

Women’s golf is also firing up as of now, and the first tournament of the year also belongs to the ladies. For the 11th year in a row a group of ladies from the Havre Women’s Golf Association is continuing the tradition of hosting the Golfing for a Cure Cancer tournament.

This year's tournament will be held June 6 at Prairie Farms Golf Course and will be a way to support those battling all forms of cancer. Last year, the association raised approximately $20,000 to assist in defraying the costs associated with cancer to anyone along the Hi-Line who is making the courageous battle with any type of cancer.

“The goal is to raise even more funds to help our friends and neighbors with travel, prosthetics, medications, and much more,” the Havre Women’s Golf Association said in a press release.

If anyone would like to play in the 3-woman scramble, buy a memory plaque in honor of a loved one, donate a prize, or sponsor the tournament, please contact Melissa Oberquell at 945-2651.

The Havre Wrestling Club will also get the tourney kicked off June 6 at Beaver Creek Golf Course. The annual Havre Wrestling Club Tournament will be held that day, as a 4-person scramble. Cost is $75 per player. For more information, call the Pro Shop at BCGC at 265-4201.
