Hi-Line Athletes of the Week

Mariah Swank, Chinook Tennis

Winning a state championship, team or individual, is no small feat. In fact, it's incredibly hard to do. Chinook senior tennis player Mariah Swank has now done it twice. Two weeks ago in Great Falls, Swank captured her second straight Class B-C singles championship, and she did it without dropping a set in four matches at the B-C state tourney. Swank also helped lead the Sugarbeeters of head coach Thom MacLean to their second consecutive Class B-C state team title, as the Beeters scored a tournament-record 52 points and placed two singles players and a doubles team.

Jeff Miller, Havre Tennis

Playing in the boys singles championship match at the Class A state tournament is becoming old hat for Havre High junior Jeff Miller. The Blue Pony standout reached the title match for the second straight season, after winning three straight matches at last weekend's Class A state tournament in Missoula. Miller would eventually fall to Corvallis' D.J. Pekoc in the final, but in the last two weeks of the season, he was extremely dominant, as he easily captured the Central A title two weeks ago in Bozeman, while also helping HHS to a third-place finish at state.
