Commission sets interviews about city government

Administrators and managers in the city of Havre will soon be interviewed by members of the Havre Review Commission on what changes should be made in the city’s form of government.

Members of the commission formed the questions they want to ask the administrator at a commission meeting Monday night.

One of the key questions will be whether the city should adopt a city manager form of government, keep the present mayor-council form or adopt a combination of the two.

Managers will be quizzed by commission members on how city governments operates now and what kind of planning should be in implemented in city government,

Commission Chair Dave Brewer said the commission hopes to interview managers and talk to city employees prior to holding community seminars and a public hearing this fall on in what direction the city should be headed.

The commission will meet later this month to finalize the questions, then schedule appointments with city leaders.

The commission plans to work over the next year on deciding what, if any, action should be taken to change the way city government works.

If the three-member panel decides that changes should be implemented, they will be submitted to voters in the 2016 general election. Voters approved the study commission in the 2013 election and elected members in 2014.
