Skylights volleyball adds former Bobcat

The start of the 2015 Montana State University-Northern volleyball season is not too far off, and the Skylights just got another big boost in their 2015 recruiting class.

That boost comes with strong MSU-Northern ties.

Northern head coach Bill Huebsch recently announced that Cassie Krueger, a 6-0 outside hitter has signed an NAIA national letter of intent to play for the Skylights this fall. Krueger is transferring to MSU-N from NCAA Division I Montana State University.

A native of Kalispell, Krueger is the daughter of Northern alumni Anna (basketball, volleyball 1987-89) and Art (basketball 1988-92) and is the oldest sister to Tessa (18), Nikki (16) and Allie (6). She will be pursuing a degree in exercise science.

"I am very excited to be a Skylight this upcoming fall season of 2015," she said in a MSU-N press release.

A four-time letter winner at Flathead High School, Cassie was named to the 2012 Class AA All-State Volleyball Team after leading the Western AA Conference in kills and hitting percentage while earning Academic All-State honors as well. In that same year she helped lead her team to a 23-8 record and a 2nd-place finish at the State AA Volleyball Tournament. An accomplished athlete, Krueger also lettered in track and swimming in high school, and she will have three years of eligibility left at MSU-N.

"We are thrilled that Cassie has chosen Northern to continue her academic and athletic careers," Huebsch said. "She is an excellent student in the classroom and has proven to be a big-time finisher on the court who can play at either pin. She should make an immediate impact on our team and the Frontier Conference."

Krueger becomes the seventh member of Huebsch's 2015 recruiting class. The Skylights are set to begin fall camp in just over a month, and they open the season Aug. 21-22 at the Eastern Oregon Tournament in LaGrande, Ore.
