Mueller named Havre assistant superintendent

Havre High School principal Craig Mueller has been named assistant superintendent of Havre Public Schools.

The school board made the appointment Thursday.

Mueller has been principal of Havre High School for three years, coming to Havre from Ottawa, Illinois.

One of Mueller's main responsibilities will be to oversee curriculum development, and Superintendent Andy Carlson said that is one of Mueller's strong points.

"He's done a good job at the high school," he said,

Carlson said it is likely Mueller's duties will be split between the high school and the assistant superintendent's job for the next year.

The district will immediately post the principal's position in house, and next week will advertise publicly.

But because it is so late, the list of applicants may be very short, he said.

Most people have made job commitments for the next year and may be reluctant to apply for the Havre job, he said.

Carlson said he wanted a substantial number of applicants to choose from, and to get that, the district may have to wait until the end of the 2015-16 school year.

"If we get just one applicant now, I would want to go with that person, even if it were a good applicant," he said.

Mueller will replace Leland Stocker in the district's number two position. Stocker will become Belgrade superintendent.
