Pearl Jam bass player to attend skate park ribbon cutting Friday

A local celebrity will be in Havre Friday for the grand opening of an expansion to a local recreation site that he funded.

Havre city officials said Pearl Jam bass player Jeff Ament, a native of Big Sandy, will attend the ribbon cutting at noon Friday at the revised Havre skate park south of the intersection of 9th Street and 9th Avenue, north of Patterson Park.

Ament, a lifetime avid skateboarder, has built and revamped several skateparks including in his home town and in Browning.

Earlier this year, the city government announced Ament was funding improvements to the Havre facility, built last decade under the tenure of Mayor Bob Rice.

Ament donated $50,000 to build the addition to the park.

Members of the Skate Board Association and other dignitaries and people involved in the completion of the addition to the skate park will join Ament at the ribbon cutting. The public is welcome to attend the event.
