For those of you who have been following my reviews of Adriana Trigiani’s “Big Stone Gap” series, “Home to Big Stone Gap” is the fourth and final book in the series

Ave Maria Mulligan MacChesney has been married to her beloved Jack for nearly 20 years. She has buried one child, Joe, and raised another, Etta.

Etta has married, is expecting a child and moved to Italy. Ave Maria has finally decided to live life for herself and reinvent her world whether she wants to or not.

An opportunistic coal company arrives and threatens to undermine the community and destroy the beautiful mountain landscape that the town has treasured.

An old heartthrob, Pete Rutledge reappears, challenging Ave Maria’s marriage. Jack takes Pete aside and makes him promise to take care of Ave Maria in case something happens to him which makes her worry about Jack’s health. Soon she finds the reason Jack has his concerns.

How the story ends I cannot tell. I was sorry the series ended, as I will miss the family and friends of Big Stone Gap. In 2014, Trigiani directed the movie, “Big Stone Gap,” which received several awards. The movie is scheduled to be released Oct. 9.
