Fire restrictions rescinded in Petroleum County and on Rocky Boy

Fire restrictions have been lifted on Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation.

Burn permits are still required in all counties for any debris or agricultural burning and may have additional limits, according to the federal Bureau of Land Management.

Restrictions have been lifted slowly in other municipalities over the last two weeks as temperatures dropped and it started raining more. Rocky Boy was the last municipality to be freed of the restrictions.

BLM asked people to check with the sheriff’s office or fire department for information on burn permits.

BLM asks people to continue to use caution in order to decrease the chance of starting human-caused fires and to avoid resource or property damage. Anyone who causes a wildland fire intentionally or through negligence may be held accountable for damage and fire suppression costs. Normal field activities such as off-road vehicle travel, smoking, use of fires for warming and cooking, and even the firing of weapons can readily start fires under the right conditions, they said.
