Carlson named the Hi-Line superintendent of the year

Havre Public Schools' Andy Carlson has been named the Hi-Line school superintendent of the year by the School Administrators of Montana.

He was one of nine tapped by the association to represent various parts of the state.

The association will announce its superintendent of the year on Oct. 15.

Carlson was hired as superintendent in 2010, entering office at a tumultuous time, the previous superintendent having been abruptly dismissed.

Most recently, he has overseen a building program at Havre High School and Sunnyside Intermediate School.

"The awards program recognizes the outstanding leadership role that superintendents play in not only their school district, but also in the community they serve," said Kirk Miller, SAM executive director and a former Havre schools superintendent.

Carlson has been active in many community activities, before assuming office and since.

"Each region's selection of the superintendent of the year acknowledges the excellent impact great district leaders have on the students served in the district," Miller added.
