Beeters, Hawks earn Northern C honors

The Chinook Sugarbeeters put together one of the most memorable football seasons in school history in 2015. The Beeters not only went undefeated at 12-0, but also won their second Class C 8-Man state championship in the past five years.

And after such a spectacular season, it was no surprise to see Chinook dominate the 2015 Northern C All-Conference selections. Chinook had eight different players selected to the team and put four members of the offense and five members of the defense onto the First-Team.

On the offensive side of the ball, quarterback Ian McIntosh, fullback Derek Bell, center Travis Hamilton and guard Kevin Young all earned First-Team honors, while guard Jesse Dannels and wide receiver Kenneth Pruttis were named to the Second Team. Running back Tate Niederegger earned an Honorable Mention.

Defensively, Chinook was equally as impressive as Hamilton and Dannels each made the First Team as defensive ends. McIntosh also earned First-Team honors at safety as did defensive lineman Kevin Young and Bell at inside linebacker. Niederegger was put on the Second Team at linebacker, while Pruttis got honorable mention at safety.

The Chester/J-I Hawks also had a stellar season, losing just twice and they were led by Justin May, who made the First-Team offense and defense at running back and outside linebacker respectively. Brett Henke also earned Second-Team honors at inside linebacker, while fellow Hawk Cory Kelly made the team at defensive end. Brandon Richter at inside linebacker, Troy Harmon at defensive end and Sam Deffinaugh at defensive end, all earned honorable mentions.

The Hawks also had two offensive players make the Second Team as Kelly made it at guard and Brandon Richter made it at quarterback. Jarvin Miles (Center), Troy Harmon (Wide Receiver), Cory Richter (Wide Receiver) were all awarded an honorable mention.

In all, 17 players from the Northern C found themselves on the final Class C 8-Man All-State team and eight of them reside in Chinook. McIntosh, Bell, Young, Hamilton, Dannels, Pruttis, Niederegger and Norby all made their way onto the 2015 Class C 8-Man All-State team for the state champions.

C/J-I, which finished second in the Northern C to Chinook, had two players make it in May and Kelly. Simms put three players on the team in Jake Bloom, Logan Rushton and Erik Pscjnernig; Belt had two players in Koltin Haugrose and Matt Metrione; Great Falls Central added one player in Joe Bertha and Power-Dutton-Brady also had Chase Rosmiller earn his way onto the team.

Chinook head coach Scott Friede won the Coach of the Year Award after a perfect regular season, a second straight Northern C title and the second straight state title game appearance.
