Ponies land five Class A All-State gridders

Even though the high school football season has been over for a few weeks now, the postseason awards are still coming in and when it comes to the Class A All-State football team, the Blue Ponies are well represented.

The team, which was announced last week, features a total of five Havre High football players on it, which is an increase from last season when three HHS players were bestowed the honor of being All-State.

Of course it’s no surprise that Havre quarterback Dane Warp earned his fourth consecutive selection after he threw for 2,394 yards and 23 touchdowns. He also won the Central A Offensive Player of the Year Award for the third straight season on his way to becoming the MHSA’s all-time leader in both passing yards and touchdown passes for 11-man football.

Warp was among a number of talented signal callers to make the team as fellow quarterbacks Luke May (Whitefish), Matt Blunt (Miles City), Michael Stanton (Billings Central) and Troy Andersen (Dillon) were also selected.

Joining Warp on the offensive side of the ball are fellow seniors Nate Rismon and Travis Adams. Rismon, a wide receiver, earned his first All-State selection after catching 47 passes for 1,002 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also added three rushing touchdowns as well as a kickoff return for a touchdown. Adams made the team for the first time after a solid season at the left tackle spot.

Defensively, the Ponies were led by Parker Filius, who earned All-State honors for the second straight year, this time as an outside linebacker. Filius was an important part of the Pony defense and finished the season with 68 tackles, two tackles for loss, three sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

Filius was not the only Havre defender to make the team as inside linebacker Jase Stokes also made the team for the first time as a junior. Stokes was an elite interior defender for HHS this season, posting 100 tackles, nine tackles for loss, four sacks, eight forced fumbles and one interception.
