Obituary - Mary Margaret Johnson

Mary Margaret Johnson, 69, of Rocky Boy passed away on Friday, Dec. 25, 2015, at her residence.

Wake services began at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2015, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Rocky Boy, and continued until her traditional funeral service, which was held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 28, 2015, also at Our Savior's Lutheran. Burial will follow in the Johnson Family Cemetery.

Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with services and arrangements.

Mary was born on March 20, 1946, in Fort Belknap, Montana, to Paul and Leona (Nomee) Mitchell. She was raised in Rocky Boy, attending schools there.

Soon after her high school years, she married Alvin Johnson, and the couple had three children. They later divorced. Several years after the divorce, she married Enos Johnson, and the couple had three children.

Mary graduated from Northern Montana College with a bachelor's degree in education and taught at Rocky Boy schools until her retirement.  

She enjoyed bingo and handgame, traveling, attending powwows sewing traditional powwow dresses for her daughters and granddaughters, and in her earlier years, beading. She was very immersed in her traditional Native American culture.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Leona Mitchell; her first husband, Alvin Johnson; her second husband, Enos Johnson Sr .; her brothers John, Robert and Wallace Mitchell; her grandson, Kyle Standing Rock; and her nephew, John Sinclair.

Mary is survived by her children, Luanne (Jerry) Four Colors, Althea Johnson, Linell (Duane Standing Rock) Chief Sky, Enos Johnson Jr., Jessica Johnson and Ryan (Kimberly Hollis) Johnson, all of Rocky Boy; her 29 grandchildren; her 16 great-grandchildren; her brother, Russell Mitchell, of Rocky Boy; her sisters, Elsie Mitchell and Alice Conklin, both of Rocky Boy; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends.
