Obituary - Videl Stump Sr.

Videl Stump Sr., 76, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016, at his residence.

Wake services began at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016, and will continue until his traditional funeral service, which will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, all at Our Savior's Lutheran Church.

Burial will follow in the Parker School Road Cemetery.

Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

Videl was born on Feb. 20, 1939, in Rocky Boy to Patrick and Florence (Denny) Stump. He was raised in Rocky Boy, attending school in Rocky Boy and Box Elder. He married Ruby Writing Bird, and they had 10 children.

He worked for the College of Great Falls for many years. Videl then attended the National Indian Police Academy in New Mexico, and returned to Rocky Boy to work for Tribal Law Enforcement. He worked for them for many years, and retired from service.

Videl then worked as a consultant for the Chippewa Cree Tribe and the schools. He and his beloved wife, Ruby, raised their children, together with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren with love and respect. He was a member of the Native American Church.

Videl enjoyed composing and singing songs, having formed the Parker Singers in the 1970s, with whom he traveled all over the United States and Canada. He also enjoyed arts and crafts and loved spending time with his beloved wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Videl was preceded in death by his daughter Cheryl Stump; his son, Tyson Stump; his granddaughter,Jessica Stump; his grandson Victor "Champ" Nomee; his parents, Patrick Stump and Florence Standing Rock; his brothers Daniel, William and George Stump and Lawrence and Martin Standing Rock; his sisters Dorothy Stump Crane, and Fern and Flovera Standing Rock; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his wife Ruby Stump of Rocky Boy; his daughters Vidella Corcoran of Billings, and Dawn Stump, Florencine (Arnold Four Souls) Stump, Marva (Darrin) Stump-SunChild and Marlo Stump, all of Rocky Boy, and Jackie Turtle, of Lame Deer; his sons Calvin (Roanna) Stump and Videl (Arletta) Stump, Jr., all of Fort Hall, Idaho, Victor (Fray) Nomee of Lodge Grass, and Rueben Stump of Rocky Boy; his adopted son, Ron Leman of Hobbema, Alberta, Canada; his 27 grandchildren; his 35 great-grandchildren; his sisters Harriet Standing Rock and Deanna (Alex) Standing Rock-Denny, all of Rocky Boy; his brothers Russell (Carol) Standing Rock, Douglas (Pauline) Standing Rock Sr. and Ellis (Desiree) Swift Hawk, all of Rocky Boy; his adopted, brothers too numerous to mention; and numerous beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
