Montana Seed show is set for this weekend

Activities celebrating rural life planned in Harlem

Harlem's annual celebration of rural life, the Montana Seed Show, will take place Thursday through Saturday.

Paul Rasmussen, a longtime organizer of the event, said activities will be pretty much as they have in the past.

The community always support the events, he said.

Different organizations will help with the programs, and Harlem High School closes so events can be held at the school gym, library and elsewhere.

People usually come from throughout the Hi-Line to enjoy the festivities, he said.

One new event will be a children's activity program that will be held Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Students from the Travel Club at Harlem High School will organize children's activities in an effort to raise money for the club's trip to Europe in 2017.

The chili cookoff will be held Thursday night, 6 p.m. at the high school, he said.

The cookoff had been a longtime tradition, he said, but took a hiatus for a few years before returning last year.

It was quite successful, he added.

Judges will pick a winner for the best chili, and the public will be able to vote for their favorite, he said.

Throughut the days, he said, there will be contests for the best pie and best bread, and people can enjoy a quilt show.

Festivities conclude Saturday night with the traditional banquet and auction.
