Air Force promotes Bergen to major

Kyle Richard Bergren was promoted to major in the US. Air Force at Nellis Air Force Base in North Las Vegas June 30.

Attending the promotion ceremony were his parents, Richard and Garnet Bergren of Havre, Montana, and his wife, Amanda of Las Vegas

Born and raised in Havre, he spent his youth operating a lawn business, overhauling engines, camping with friends, and restoring and selling classic vehicles. Bergren graduated from Havre High School in 2001 with advanced placement honors in math and chemistry. Shortly thereafter, he enrolled in the Air Force ROTC program at Montana State University. Bergren was commissioned in 2006 upon graduation with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering and an Associate of Science in military studies.

While a student at MSU, he obtained a commercial pilot's license and began his military career in pilot training at Vance Air Force Base in Oklahoma. Bergren has served at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho, Pope Air Force Base in North Carolina, and Hill Air Force Base in Utah. In 2013 he was deployed to the United Arab Emirates as a civil engineer developing base infrastructure. He is currently chief system engineer, Air Force Joint Test Program Office at Nellis Air Force Base in North Las Vegas.

In 2013, he earned a master's degree in aviation sciences from Embry Riddles Aeronautical University in Florida. Bergren holds a professional engineer license from the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing.
