Woman arrested for swerving into curbs, hitting vehicle

Officers sped to the scene and arrested a 55-year-old Havre woman after police dispatch received several phone calls Monday after 7 p.m. saying a woman in a white pickup truck was swerving and hitting cars.

Betty Bailey Ranes was arrested for aggravated driving under the influence, third offense; reckless driving; failing to stop and identify self after striking unattended vehicle and failing to give notice of accident. Ranes was in the Hill County jail this morning on a $5,640 bond.

The dispatch log shows that the police department received five calls around 7:30 p.m. reporting an erratic driver.

Havre Police Chief Gabe Matosich said one of the calls came from someone who witnessed a 2008 Buick being struck by the swerving vehicle. Matosich said the Buick was parked on the 500 Block of Sixth Street when it was struck and incurred heavy damage to the left side rear quarter panel.

Matosich said Ranes’ pickup was damaged on the front quarter panel and the wheel area. No one was injured and none of the vehicles were totaled, he said.

Ranes was found on the 800 Block of Hill Street.

“Upon contact, there was obvious signs of impairment,” Matosich said, citing the incident report.
