Boys & Girls Club celebrates new park with barbecue

The entire community of Havre is invited to a barbecue dinner Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club of the Hi-Line to celebrat its new Memorial Fitness Park playground.

Club Director Tim Brurud said they expect a good turnout - "about a couple hundred people."

"It's a family event," Brurud said, adding there will certainly be children at the event.

Brurud said hot dogs and hamburgers will be served, and probably some dessert. He wasn't sure, but he guessed vegetables from the new raised gardens that were part of the playground addition might be thrown in the culinary mix as well.

The Memorial Fitness Park playground was finished in early August. It was a result of grants and contributions from Havre businesses and residents.

Among the additions was a large swing that holds more than one person on the seat, a cave with plastic critters such as bats and lizards, a big slide and a spinning apparatus that fits multiple children at once.

Further additions are being planned, including a renovated sandbox and, if all goes well, more gardening space.
