Skylights' Timi Severson honored

The Montana State University-Northern volleyball team earned a huge road win last Saturday night, beating perennial Frontier Conference powerhouse Lewis-Clark State.

And overall, the weekend was a good road trip for the Skylights and for freshman Timi Severson, who was named Frontier Conference Attacker of the Week. Northern went 1-1 for their weekend matches losing 1-3 at Montana Tech 3-0 and upsetting No. 25 Lewis-Clark State 3-0 on the road.

Severson, a 6-0 outside hitter from Kalispell, averaged 2.86 kills with a .349 hitting percentage. Her .667 attack percentage in the win over Lewis-Clark was the second highest three-set hitting percentage in program history.

Also nominated and listed in alphabetical order: Bailie Cortner of Montana Tech, Holly Morehouse of Carroll College, Savannah Smith of Rocky Mountain and Madison Wilhelm of the University of Great Falls.

Southern Oregon’s Jason Shelley was named Frontier Conference Offensive Player of the Week. Shelley is a 6-foot-2, 175-pound freshman wide receiver from Fairfield, California. In No. 9 Southern Oregon’s 31-27 conference win over College of Idaho, Shelley caught five passes for 113 yards and one touchdown. Also nominated; Darius-James Peterson of College of Idaho.

SOU’s Keegan Lawrence is a 5-foot-11, 195 lbs, junior defensive back from Sherwood, Oregon, who was named Frontier Defensive Player of the Week. In No. 9 Southern Oregon’s 31-27 win over College of Idaho, Lawrence recorded 10 solo tackles, one assisted tackle and one pass break-up. Also nominated: Forrest Rivers of College of Idaho.

SOU’s Louis DesPrez, a junior punter from Pleasanton, California, was named Special Teams Player of the Week. In No. 9 Southern Oregon’s 31-27 win over College of Idaho, DesPrez punted seven times for 282 yards (40 yard average). His longest was 56 yards.
