Man sentenced for eluding officers in car chase

A man who led officers on a chase from Rocky Boy to Havre was sentenced Thursday in District Court in Havre  to five years to the state Department of Corrections.

Adrian J. Young, born in 1976, received seven years, with two suspended, to the DOC for criminal endangerment, a felony. The sentence is pursuant to a plea agreement that dismissed two additional misdemeanor charges.

Rocky Boy Police called the Hill County Sheriff's Office Nov. 10, 2014 to tell them they were chasing a car that was heading toward Beaver Creek Park, the charging document says.

The document says the road was icy because it had rained and frozen over, and snow was falling at the time of the pursuit.

A deputy responded and the vehicle, driven by Young at about 60 miles per hour, drove past him toward the Havre city limits. The deputy turned around and gave chase behind the Rocky Boy cruisers.

The Havre Police Department had been alerted and had set spikes in the road by the time Young drove over them near the softball field. Young continued at 50 mph onto Fifth Avenue before turning west onto 10th Street. Young then lost traction and stopped.

An officer approached the vehicle and broke the window to open the driver's door.

"The driver still appeared to be attempting to accelerate up the hill," the charging document says.

Young was arrested. Officers found that Young had previously had his driving privileges revoked.
