Vote yes on I-181 for patient care research

Editor

Montana scientists need a stable, reliable, funding source to develop leading Centers of Excellence that move basic research to patient care. That’s why on Nov. 8, we must vote Yes on I- 181, a bond initiative to fund biomedical research in Montana. Importantly, I-181 is a bond issue, not a tax. The program’s financing structure actually protects taxpayers, making a long-term investment in healthcare and medicine, so current taxpayers do not have to shoulder the costs of medical and scientific research that will benefit patients and taxpayers for decades to come.

There would be a limited impact on state revenues as the total cost of the bond program would be less than one half of one percent of the state general fund budget. Patients also would possibly have access to early clinical trials right here in Montana.

I-181 — it will save lives and save money. In fact, it will likely generate revenue from royalties that can be invested in additional medical research or used for other vital services.

We owe it to every Montanan to vote “yes” on I-181.
